Zircon Sand
Zircon sand is a mineral mainly composed of zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4). The pure zircon sand is as colorless and transparent crystal, but often present yellow, orange, red, brown, or other colors, due to the differences of origin, type and content of impurities. Generally, zircon sand co-exists with ilmenite, rutile, monazite in the coastal sand and can be separated through the mineral processing technology.
Zircon sand is of hardness 7.8, specific gravity 4.6-4.71, refractive index 1.93-2.01, birefringence and direct absorption performance, low susceptibility and no conduction, and melting point 2550℃. Zirconium sand’s theoretical components are ZrO2, SiO2, and a small amount of Fe2O3, CaO, Al2O3, and other impurities. Theoretically, pure zircon sand contains ZrO2 of 67.23% and SiO2 of 32.77%. Our company has established stable source bases in the rich mineral countries like Australia, Indonesia, and South Africa to ensure the stable supply of the qualified raw materials.
Application of zircon sand:
1. Used as refractory materials (zirconium refractories), such as zirconium corundum bricks, zirconium refractory fibers.
2. Used as moulding sand for precision cast
3. Used in ceramic and enamel ware
4. Used in production of glass, metal (zirconium sponge) and zirconium compounds (zirconium dioxide, zirconium oxychloride, sodium zirconate, potassium zirconium fluoride, zirconium sulfate, etc.)
